Product launch video: how I make one in under an hour

A product launch video that works runs 20 to 30 seconds, has no voice and follows five beats: an open question, the problem growing, the solution, one real proof, the name. I build mine from code, starting from the product's website. The last one, a 28-second launch video for a founder I saw asking on X, took about 45 minutes from his post to the final file, render included.

Below: the structure, the brief to fill before opening any tool, how many words fit on screen, how to take the brand from the website, how to measure the sound, what it costs to have it made, and where this method is the wrong tool.

How long should a product launch video be?

It depends where it runs, but for a product page, a launch post or an ad the useful range is 15 to 30 seconds. A viewer in a feed decides in a few seconds whether to stay, and a video with no voice has to work at zero volume. The length matters less than how you split it.

BeatWhat it doesat 15 sat 30 s
Hookan open, incomplete question1.5 s2 s
Problemthe same problem in several variants, the longest beat5 s10 s
Solutionthe product enters as a promise, no interface2.5 s5 s
Demoone proof, no decoration4 s7 s
Outroechoes the hook, then the name held for at least 1 s2 s6 s

How is a launch video structured?

I did not invent the structure: it is how the author of a launch video with more than 1.1 million claimed views cut his own work, five named segments on the timeline: Hook, Problem, Solution, Demo, Outro. Read frame by frame, the problem takes about 10 seconds out of 33 and is shown three times, in three different industries. Time goes to what has to convince, not spread evenly for looks.

Two details make the difference. The solution proves nothing: it enters as a presence, and the demo right after does the proving. And the outro reuses the opening words: the product name comes last, never first.

The same method in 18 seconds. The audio check lines are the real ones from the 28-second launch video.

What do you write before opening any tool?

A one-page brief. Decide what to say first, how it looks after: the same brief can be dressed in different ways, and a redo starts from the brief, not from the previous version.

  1. The problem, in one sentence, in the customer's words. If it takes two sentences, it is not clear yet.
  2. The promise, only one: what changes for the buyer.
  3. The proof: a request and a result, with the line that shows the value. Real, or labelled as a reconstruction.
  4. The hero object: the number, card or word that crosses every beat and changes shape.
  5. Where it runs and for whom: page, social, ad, sound on or off.

How many words fit on screen?

Fewer than you think. The BBC subtitle guidelines go up to 160-180 words a minute, about 3 a second, and in a video where things move people read fewer. The first version of one of my demos had 6.7 words a second and was rejected as "crammed". Text that must be read goes big, at least 56 pixels on a 1080 video; text nobody needs to read goes away.

Screen recording or video from code?

They do two different jobs. A screen recording is proof: it shows what really exists, but it is stuck in real time and every fix means recording again. A video from code is illustration: every scene is an animated web page, built with HyperFrames and GSAP, you change a word and render it again identically. It can show what does not exist yet, and when it rebuilds an interface it has to say so.

Code wins when the video must follow every product release, when you need it in several languages, or when the real interface is slow or full of private data. Recording wins when the proof is seeing the real product move, or when a person speaks on camera.

Budgets posted by clients on Upwork (product video, SaaS demo, read 28 Sep 2026) and a studio price list (launch video, SaaS average, read 7 Oct 2026). A posted budget is not the final payment.

My out-of-pocket cost on the 28-second video was time, about 45 minutes, plus music generated with credits from a plan I already pay for. The render took seven and a half minutes on a laptop. I do not compare it one to one with a studio: a studio also shoots, records voice and storyboards with the client.

How do you get the sound right?

By measuring, not by ear. The music sits on a fixed-tempo grid and the cuts land on the kick: at 120 BPM there is a hit every half second. Then loudness: around -16 LUFS with the peak below -1 dBFS, a range that works on page, social and ads (the reference for the measurement is EBU R128).

On the 28-second launch video the first normalisation pass gave -13.5 LUFS with the peak above 0: it would have shipped distorted. With a limiter and two-pass normalisation it reached -16.0 LUFS with the peak at -2.2. Without the measurement I would not have noticed.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a product launch video be?
15 to 30 seconds for a product page, a launch post or an ad. The split matters more than the length: the problem is the longest beat, the name comes last and holds still for at least a second.
Does a launch video need a voice-over?
No. A video with no voice works at zero volume, as it is usually watched in feeds and pages. Music is optional and goes on the cuts.
Can I make one without a video editor?
Yes, if the video is built from code: every scene is an animated web page and you redo it by changing a word. You still need a brief decided first, with a real proof.
What does it cost?
Budgets posted on Upwork go from 150 to 250 dollars, studios start at 1,000-1,500 dollars for 60 seconds and the average SaaS video is 3,130 dollars. The kit to make it with your own AI agent costs 19 dollars.
